Senior Director, FP&A

Part-time 20/hrs a week

AN2 is seeking an experienced Senior Director, FP&A for budgeting, forecasting, account analyses and monthly account accruals. This role will collaborate closely with senior executives to drive critical financial initiatives and improvements across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep financial expertise, strong analytical skills, effective communication and presentation skills (Powerpoint) and the ability to work across disciplines in a dynamic environment. This position is a hybrid role based out of our headquarters in Menlo Park, CA,

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain financial models (primarily budget and forecasting) that help guide near and long-term portfolio planning and decision making. 
  • Lead the long-range planning, annual budgeting, monthly reporting, and continuous reforecasting processes to assist in finance and corporate strategic efforts.
  • Lead the maintenance and update of the long-range financial model. 
  • System owner and super user of the Company’s FP&A tool, Cube.
  • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses 
  • Support and provide financial analyses and insights for forecasting and ongoing accounting support  
  • Effectively partner with multiple functions to align on key assumptions, including program costs  
  • Collaborate with the CEO and CFO on business reviews, providing insights on risks, opportunities, and strategies for improved growth and cash preservation.
  • Assist with ad hoc reviews of analyst reports compared to company records, including the understanding of analyst assumptions.
  • Assist with the Company’s annual compensation cycle.
  • Assist with various government contracting and reporting activities, including but not limited to indirect cost and overhead rate calculations and reporting.
  • Assist with various accounting related activities and journal entries, specifically clinical trial and R&D accruals, P&L fluctuation analyses, etc.
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis support 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A, with a strong understanding of financial cycles and reporting.
  • Biotech/Pharma industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with annual budgets, variance analyses, forecasts, IR analyst models; budget system implementations a plus
  • Advanced Excel-based modelling experience.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills to create compelling Board and management presentations 
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence senior leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Initiative-taking and able to work independently. 
  • Resourceful, motivated, and able to identify potential issues or problems and find solutions. 
  • Will work closely with CFO on forecasting and strategic presentations to management and Board and with Controller to support ongoing account analyses.


AN2 anticipates that the hourly rate for this position could range from between $96 - $150/hr and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate's credentials for the role, including education, qualifications, and type as well as length of experience. Any offered compensation is also based on internal compensation ranges, market data, and the position's wage range. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
